Organizational sustainability rating and certification services

In the course of validating product-level environmental claims and developing multi-attribute product level sustainability standards, UL Environment considered the question: "Can an unsustainable business create sustainable products and vice versa?"

Our answer: "No."

We also realized that while sustainability is a journey, the ultimate destination was unclear.

"What," we asked ourselves, "does a sustainable company look like?"

Answers varied, depending on who we asked and where we looked.

We created the UL Environment's Organizational Sustainability Services to explore that question. By developing corporate-level sustainability standards, we are actively engaging a community of scientists, sustainability practitioners, and thought leaders in the field of sustainability to help us define the destination. And by establishing a verification and certification program, we are helping companies measure their progress on their journeys toward greater sustainability.

We believe that providing corporate-level certification of sustainability practices will better enable companies to contribute to a vision of sustainability enables all people to live fulfilling and healthy lives within the limits of our planet's ability to support us.
