Environmental Product Declarations

Summarized environmental data based on life cycle assessment

Today's marketplace demands independently verified environmental claims backed by the highest level of transparency.  Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) take sharing information about a product to that next level.  They are the international communication tool for objective, credible environmental performance information.  European nations and voluntary, consensus -based green building standards are adopting EPDs as a means to share and compare environmental impacts resonating from a product chain.

UL Environment's EPD Program facilitates the communication of reliable environmental data for a wide variety of products across industries. An EPD is a comprehensive and transparent tool that summarizes a whole product life cycle and communicates environmental data in a "cradle to grave" approach.   EPDs reference internationally recognized indicators, such as "use of primary energy", or "greenhouse gas emissions." The UL Environment EPD Program provides easily accessible, quality-assured and comparable information regarding the environmental performance of products.

UL Environment's EPD program will be completed in accordance with ISO 14025. All EPDs resulting from this program will be non-selective, neutral and open to the public.
